Camp iRock is available through a partnership between the YMCA of Easley, Pickens & Powdersville, the United Way of Pickens County, the School District of Pickens County, the United Way of Anderson County and Anderson School District One.
Students are invited to participate in Camp iRock based on their academic qualifications provided by their Reading Coaches. Please ask at your child’s school regarding an invitation to participate in Camp iRock.
Camp iRock is an innovative summer camp which helps children improve their reading abilities while having tons of camp fun. Each summer, elementary school students spend the summer engaging in exciting academic and enrichment activities at Camp iRock. Facilitated by certified teachers and trained counselors, the unique curriculum is designed to help close the achievement gap and prevent these at-risk children from falling behind over the summer months.
The 4 week program runs Monday-Friday, 8 am to 4 pm and includes, at no cost to the children:
- Bus transportation
- Breakfast, lunch and snacks
- Swim lessons
- Field trips
- Music and arts
- Physical activity
- Nutrition and healthy living
- Character development
- Team building
- Reading
Certified teachers, YMCA camp counselors, a Site Coordinator, Call Me Mister interns, and volunteer mentors provide a staff to student ration of 1:8 during educational time and 1:12 during enrichment and meal times.
