Y HIKING CLUB – All Members Welcome!

Celebrate time outdoors on the many spectacular trails and state parks in our area with family, friends and other Y members. The Y Hiking Club is a great way to stay active, connect with others in the great outdoors and enjoy the wonderful beauty of nature.

Anyone is welcome to join any of our hikes, however, each hike involves a varied level of difficulty. Please take into consideration the length and elevation gain of the hike that you plan to attend and consider your current fitness level.

While registration is not required, we encourage you to register for individual hikes below. By registering, you will help us know who’s coming and have your contact information as well as any emergency contact information.

Hike: Table Rock State Park to Pinnacle Falls (Unofficial Route)

Overview:

  • Distance: 4.6 miles (out and back)
  • Elevation Gain: 1,082 feet
  • Difficulty: Moderate, with short strenuous sections near the falls.
  • Estimated Hiking Time: 3-4 hours (including breaks)
  • Trail Surface: Natural surface, including moderate inclines, uneven paths, tree roots, stream crossings, and boulders.

Description:

This hike follows an unofficial route to Pinnacle Falls, combining several trails within Table Rock State Park. It is not listed as an official trail on AllTrails. The route leads to the 100-foot Pinnacle Falls, where we will take an extended break before returning.

Important Considerations:

  • Trail Difficulty: This is not an easy hike. You should be in good physical condition and comfortable with challenging terrain. If you are beginner this is probably not the hike for you.
  • Navigation: The trail network can be confusing. The detailed map created is unavailble at this time.
  • Footwear & Gear: Appropriate hiking footwear and a good sense of balance are essential. Hiking poles are highly recommended.
  • Physical Condition: Must be in good shape.

What to Bring:

  • Hiking poles
  • Plenty of water
  • Electrolyte drinks (e.g., Gatorade)
  • Lunch (optional, for a picnic at the falls or park tables afterward)

Park Information:

  • Access: Requires a South Carolina State Park Pass or a per-car fee ($6 for adults, $3.75 for SC seniors, $3.50 for children ages 6-15).
  • Restrooms: Available at the Visitor Center near the parking lot.
  • GPS Address: Google Maps Link  for navigation.

We’ll be meeting at the Parking area at 8:45 with hike commencing promptly at 9am.

Hike: Bad Creek Trailhead to Upper Whitewater Falls

Overview:

  • Distance: 3.8 miles (out and back)
  • Elevation Gain: 826 feet
  • Difficulty: Moderate
  • Estimated Hiking Time: 2-3 hours (including breaks)
  • Trail Surface: Natural surface, well-maintained, with some rocky sections and steps.
  • Date: May 10th

Description:

This hike takes you to the impressive Upper Whitewater Falls, one of the highest waterfalls east of the Mississippi. The trail starts at the Bad Creek Trailhead and follows a generally moderate path through a beautiful forested area. The trail features some elevation changes and leads to a series of viewing platforms offering spectacular perspectives of the falls.

Important Considerations:

  • Trail Difficulty: The trail is rated as moderate. Be prepared for some uphill sections and uneven terrain.
  • Footwear & Gear: Sturdy hiking shoes or boots are recommended. Hiking poles can be helpful, but are not required.
  • Waterfalls: The area is known for its amazing views.
  • Weather: Check the weather forecast before you go. Conditions can change rapidly in the mountains.

What to Bring:

  • Water (plenty)
  • Snacks
  • Camera
  • Layered clothing (weather can be unpredictable)
  • Rain gear (optional, but recommended)

Access Information:

  • Fees: $3.00 cash fee to be placed in the Fee Station on the honor system. Correct change is needed.
  • Restrooms: None are available.
  • GPS Address: Bad Creek Trailhead.

Meeting Time and Location:

  • Meet at the Bad Creek Trailhead at 8:45 AM.
  • Hike Start Time: 9:00 AM sharp.
